joint custody of our 17 month old daughter

What is the chance I be granted joint physical custody of our 17 month old daughter? I heard that if it's a baby, then the court genterally grant custody of the mother. Is this true? I live in California.

In my case, I want joint custody but my exwife wants full custody of our baby.

up to the court...

Not sure about how often the court grants custody to mothers simply because of age of the children. In my understanding the parent who can maintain the child's well-being will maintain custody. Because your child is a baby, his/her life will not be affected as much as say a child who is in high school, has friends, social ties, etc...There are some articles on this site that might be of help, good luck.

I agree

If a child is really young they aren't going to be aware of what is going on as much as a young baby. Also that post is correct they will not have been friends with people for a really long time yet and you won't be hurting their life by getting a divorce and making them move somewhere else. Good luck
